AgroWeb CEE Partnership in the V4 Countries - the FAO National
Committees on Internet
was held at the Institute of Agricultural and Food Information (IAFI) in
Prague, November 30th - December 1st 2000. It was jointly organized by FAO
Subregional Office for Central and Eastern Europe (SEUR), GAK, Kht., IAFI and the Ministry of Agriculture of the
Czech Republic in Prague. A tentative program is enclosed.
The workshop has been the
third in the line after meeting in Gödöllö (Hungary) in 12/1999 and in Nitra (Slovakia) in 3/2000. Whole project is from now on
(at least till September 2001) supported by the International
Visegrad Fund. The project is known under "AgroWeb CEE Partnership in the V4 Countries" and it is
coordinated by GAK, Kht.
The
workshop addressed the role of AgroWeb CEE partnership in V4 Countries and
FAO National Committees Network in facilitating information exchange
through Internet, training and capacity building activities. It has
featured strategies for planning, coordinating, implementing, evaluating
and mobilizing resources for the appropriate development of the topics,
with a focus on expanding partnerships.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
- The Prague meeting was successful start of cooperation with International Visegrad Fund
(IVF). This fund has contributed to the development of two sub-regional
projects implemented under FAO SEUR
coordination (Agroweb CEE, FAO National Committees on Internet)
- This V-4 Initiative is aimed to further develop technical
background, effectiveness and public awareness of above mentioned
projects and set up a model for other Central and Eastern European
countries. The participants has discussed the following issues during
the session:
- new version of Agroweb CEE (AW CEE) as prepared by FAO
SEUR
- new version of FAO SEUR
site,
- development of FAO National Committee (FAO NC) websites,
-
promotion of both projects.
There was also a presentation of FAO
information sources, V-4 Initiative FAO NC on Internet and AW CEE
projects for representatives of Czech research and academic institutions
during the workshop.
- The workshop has also been visited by experts from Croatia and
Slovenia. The aim of their participation was to learn about V-4
Initiative, to contribute to discussion and work of this group and
prepare national page for FAO NC. The contact between V-4 Initiative,
Croatia and Slovenia has been successfully established, new FAO NC pages
were created for their incorporation to national AW pages and
information source for national government. There is a specialized
workshop for Balkan countries covered from Czech/FAO Trust Fund planned
in March 2001 to further develop mutual cooperation between these
countries, FAO
SEUR and V-4 Initiative.
- Recommendations
- incorporate new version of AW CEE
website in all countries,
- prepare informative and promotional
booklet and CD-ROM on both projects,
- further develop public
awareness of both projects through seminars, presentations on trade
fairs and conferences, registration on search engines, logo exchange
with other agriculture related servers and through above mentioned
promotional materials,
- further develop cooperation of V-4
Initiative with International
Visegrad Fund as well as with other countries in the CEE
sub-region,
- AW CEE and FAO NC websites are recommended as
communication tools for CEE,
- GAK,
Kht. as a coordinator of V-4 Initiative will prepare its website,
-
set up next meeting in Warsaw in June/July 2001.
