Matter and objective
Matter and objective

Considering the need of information about agricultural topics in Central (and later in Eastern) Europe we have decided to collect and provide information on agricultural institutions and other important agriculture related subjects to help users to find information and contacts in Central and Eastern European countries. The files of the different countries contain information about ministries, libraries, information centres, universities, research centres, NGOs, agro marketing organisations and organisations involved in European integration process. The AgroWeb pages provide www links, if available, to these national institutes and in some cases to other relevant national web sites. The AgroWeb CEE (Http://www.iaaldcee.hu/awnt) was an initiative of the FAO in Central and Eastern Europe, involving 19 countries.

Now using the expertise of the participating institutions and persons from the V4 countries, pilot developments could be carried out to be implemented by the others later. The V4 countries have the necessary technical possibilities and personal capacities to be able to successfully prepare proposals and create sample applications, which later can be adopted by the whole network.

The Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak COAIM (1st Consultation on Agricultural Information Management - Rome, 5-7 June 2000) Delegations had decided to initiate a series of technical discussions and workshops about the future development of AgroWeb CEE Network. The organisers intend to invite the AgroWeb authors and COAIM delegates from the four Central European member countries: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.

The aims of the discussions and workshops will be to

  • summarise the results of content-development and structuring the system in between 1st consultation, and the proposed next two workshops,
  • discuss the possibilities of the further development, make decisions about the new services,
  • discuss the needs of users and service providers, and the possibilities of technical and professional support,
  • make decisions about the responsible persons for the technical support.

It is also the objective of the project to introduce a pilot European Union online information system with the active participation of the relevant V4 countries. This system is titled the "Essential European Union related Daily AgriBusiness Information Service (EDABIS)" and it is suggested to be integrated - as a basic element - to the AgroWeb CEE system. Information on the EDABIS system is attached to this application form.
